E-liquid - The Benefits of Vegetable Glycerin and Propylene Glycol

 VG PG E-Liquid

The information about electronic cigarettes can be confusing to most people especially because of the numerous varieties of flavors available in the market.  Vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol are basic ingredients that most e-liquid manufacturers mix to form the e-liquid used in electronic cigarettes.

In this article, we look at the benefits of vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol and why some people chose over the other or both

An e-cigarette is made up three main internal components namely, an atomizer, a battery, and a tank.  It is in the tank that the e-liquid goes.  When you power on the cigarette, the atomizer heats up and warm the liquid. As a result, the liquid quickly turns into vapor allowing you inhale and exhale for an enjoyable, flavorful hit. The components of e-liquid give it the consistency and the pleasant hit that goes to the back of your throat. The two main flavors of e-liquid are vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol.

Vegetable Glycerin

The vegetable glycerin is thicker and tastes slightly sweeter. Its distinct taste enables it to affect flavoring to a small extent. VG’s thickness means that it can easily stick to the sides of the tank making the cleanup process difficult. It might require you to use alcohol swabs to wipe it out from the coils or tank.

Vaping an e-liquid gives you the wonderful sensation as the nicotine and the flavor hit the back of your throat with every puff.  Vegetable glycerin provides a superior hitting experience full of pleasant, thick and lingering flavors. You get a more satisfying hit because VG is not diluted with other ingredients. But the thicker hitting effect of VG can detract from the deep sensation that you really want. Vegetable glycerin have minimal side effects and allergic reactions hence it is used by many people around the world

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol base is the most frequently used e-liquid in e-cigarettes. PG base is thin and runny which enables it to drop faster in the wick atomizer so that you can burn through the liquid much faster.  Its thinness makes it easier to clean the tank and coil components of the e-cigarette.

Vapers are always looking for deep sensations coming from the hit of e-liquids. Propylene glycol delivers a strong pleasing hit to the back of your throat because it keeps things moist. PG has no taste of its own so it can’t affect the flavors of your e-liquid. However, propylene glycol is likely to cause allergic reactions for some people. If you start experiencing allergic conditions because of PG effects, you should switch over to VG immediately.

Which One Should I Go With?

Deciding on which one of the two e-liquids to go with depends entirely on your personal preference. You could choose to go with propylene as most e-liquid manufacturers use it as the standard e-liquid base, or go with vegetable glycerin that provides thicker plumes and wonderful sensation. Propylene does not distort the flavor hence offers a more satisfying sensation.

Some people also prefer to mix both vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol for a number of reasons. Mixing the two vapors reduces the likelihood of PG causing allergic reactions. When you add VG to PG you get thicker, milkier plumes that are more palatable for intense sensation.

Most companies mix both flavors in equal proportions but you can always find a combination that flavors propylene glycol liquid. In this combination, the sweetness is reduced, but flavors of the liquid and the delightful thick plumes of vegetable glycerin are retained.

I will leave it up to you to decide which combination meets your preferences. But you’ll have to experience the bases to determine which one works best for you.
