MTL and DTL are two styles of vaping and they’re defined by how you inhale the vapor from the e-cigarette itself.

 

MTL, mouth-to-lung, is when the vapor from the e-cigarette is inhaled into the mouth, then into the lungs. Like how users traditionally used cigarettes.

 

DTL, direct-to-lung, is when the vapor (also known as sub ohm) is inhaled from the e-cigarette directly into the lungs. It’s like taking a breath.

MTL

Like previously said, MTL is a method of vaping a vape or e-cigarette is a way where the vapor from the device is inhaled into the mouth and then to the lungs. This method resembles how traditional smokers would smoke a cigarette, making this style best for beginners.

 

With this method you get more of a throat hit and ex-smokers who miss this sensation will want to be able to experience it more with MTL.

 

E-liquid composition does affect your experience with both styles. MTL differs greatly in that you can use slightly higher nicotine concentrations because you’re using higher resistance coils. However, if you’re considering using a higher concentration of nicotine, note that your throat hit might be a bit harsh. DTL 

DTL is a vaping method where the vapor from the device is inhaled directly into the lungs, the style completely opposite of MTL. When choosing nicotine concentrations DTL is more compatible for the lower end of the spectrum. The draw for a DTL hit is longer than a MTL, drawing from anywhere between 3-10 seconds, so if you’re using a higher concentration you’ll get harsher draws and the experience won’t be as pleasant.
