California post-elections results, what are the results of Proposition 31?

The results of the midterm elections are out and what has California voted on Proposition 31? Associated Press was the first to call it on Wednesday with 62.3% of voters in favor for Prop 31.

What does that mean? If you refer to a previous blog post about prop 31, that means majority of California voters have agreed to ban flavored tobacco products.

Stores or vending machines carrying tobacco or ENDS products outside of normal tobacco flavors will be fined $250 with each violation.

Stores and businesses across California who depend on flavored tobacco products will see a noticeable decrease in sales. FOX 11 interviewed a small independent smoke shop who’s worried that his sales will go down 60%-65%, given that the prop will go into effect as early as December.

These stores will eventually stop selling flavored products and that means a shift in how consumers will end up finding them. As stated in our Prop 31 blog post, vapers will find a way to buy the products, even if it results in a prohibition. You get rid of the product on the market, that will in-turn create a black market, a worse situation than what the general public thinks is happening now.

Of course, purchasing products online is another great option, but what will happen once they turn to ecommerce sites?

Flavors are the cornerstone of vaping, and as many in our community know, it’s been the reason many switch over from cigarettes. Adults have the freedom and right to choose what they want. In the end, is Big Tobacco the one losing with the results?
